Data Protection

Commitment and practice

LIFT for Learning respects the privacy and confidentiality of all personal information relating to individuals participating in the DigiSmart® project who are using, or have used, the DigiSmart® online materials and related printed materials.

LIFT is registered with the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection Act 1998 for the processing of personal information.

Access to project data is password protected and all LIFT personnel are aware of data protection issues and the need for strictest confidentiality.

The personal information we gather is used to identify and communicate with those individuals involved in the DigiSmart® charitable educational project who are authorised by LIFT for Learning to use the DigiSmart® materials. Such information can include names, email addresses, and telephone numbers for adults; names for children.

When collecting personal information we use strict procedures to prevent unauthorised access.

We review the effectiveness and adequacy of our data protection, privacy and confidentiality procedures on a regular basis.

Child privacy and safety

This is vitally important to us.

We do not pass on children's names to any third party and we do not report on named individual children.

We gather specific information about children selected to participate in the project for the following purposes:

  • to ensure they meet the criteria we use to target children who will significantly benefit from the type of learning intervention offered by the project
  • to track any learning gains they achieve in ICT and reading, as well as advances in confidence and self-esteem in order to assess the beneficial impact of the project
  • to provide them with unique individual passwords needed to access and use the online project materials

Other data

Personal information on staff in educational establishments is gathered for administration and operational purposes specifically relating to the DigiSmart® project:

  • to provide unique passwords to authorised users of the DigiSmart® project materials
  • to communicate project information and requirements, and to provide updates on project news and activity

Websites and materials

The LIFT for Learning websites, which include the DigiSmart® websites, do not use cookies to track user traffic patterns. We only monitor IP addresses of visitors to assess which pages are the most used. These IP addresses are not linked to any personal data.

Where photographs of individuals involved in the project are published on any of the DigiSmart® project websites or printed materials, permissions are obtained. Individuals are not identifiable by name. If photos of LIFT for Learning staff are published by LIFT and individual staff members are named, this only occurs where the staff concerned have consented to their publication.
